Your role:

Utility Operator is a jumping off point for developing a career within Ardent Mills. This position will ensure all requirements for facility sanitation are consistently met. You will train and become qualified to fill vacant Operator positions.    All Employees are expected to develop the skills necessary to advance to the next level. Stepping back to a lower level position is not allowed, we want you to grow and learn in order to take the opportunities moving forward. You will assist all employees with mill problems as necessary.

Above all, you will be expected to carry out all your activities with reliability, integrity, compliance and in a safe, environmentally responsible, and efficient manner.

Your responsibilities:

  • Responsible for understanding and following all personnel and equipment safety policies; all GMP, HACCP, Sanitation policies; following all Business Unit policies and procedures.
  • Operate Fork Truck Become Qualified as Relief Loader Become Qualified as Relief Elevator Operator including Track Engine Operation.
  • Become qualified to do basic Maintenance tasks i.e.: Roll Changing, Spouting, Leak Repairs.
  • Become Qualified to perform basic Miller duties, i.e.: unchoking lifts and spouts, taking extractions, adjusting roll grind.
  • Use compressed air hoses / wands to blow down overheads.
  • Scrub floors and Equipment.
  • Feed in flour / mill stocks / bagged product – 50 pounds.
  • Help move 50 pound ingredients boxes into position.
  • Empty 50 pound boxes and bags into waist high feeder hoppers
  • Enter data into plant control system computers for record keeping and operate computer process controls.
  • Pick up spilled product with shovels / barrels (wheat, screenings, flour, mill stocks, feed, etc).
  • Other related job tasks / functions as assigned by management.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply, divide and perform simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Proficient in computer tools including email and spreadsheets.
  • Proficient in English both written and verbally.

Good to have:

  • Experience in a warehouse or production environment.
  • Experience working outdoors in all seasons.
  • Basic mechanical understanding/experience.

Physical requirements and working conditions (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as is required by the operating areas (i.e. safety glasses, protective footwear, hearing protection and a respirator).
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. and work in a dusty environment.
  • Dust masks are required to be worn a great deal of the time.
  • Cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
  • At times working at heights.
  • Climb stairs between floors.
  • Wear full-body secondary fall protection harness – working from heights above 10 feet.
  • Work in Tight or Enclosed or Confined Spaces
  • Climb ladders to access overheads.

Other considerations:

  • Must be willing to accept accountability and work well in a team.
  • Must meet the company performance standards for the job.
  • Must be willing to be cross-trained in multiple positions for development within the facility and to provide any relief duties as needed.
