Milling Technician

Your Role: 

As a Milling Technician you are directly involved with processing wheat, our raw material, into flour and feed products.  Milling Technicians work in teams in the following areas:  Mill and Flour/Feed load out.  The Milling technician reports to the Head Miller.

Your responsibilities:

  • Plant sanitation via air hose or shoveling/material handling
  • Monitoring and controlling the various unit operations via the process control system, checking product quality and progress
  • Performing quality checks on raw materials, intermediate process streams, and finished products, using a variety of laboratory equipment
  • Loading finished products (trucks, railcars), and controlling inventory in order to satisfy both internal and external customer needs
  • Operation of all plant rolling stock including Rail movers, bobcat, forklift
  • Cover open vacancies on other teams
  • Performing a variety of preventive/planned basic maintenance tasks on plant systems and equipment. Also, being directly involved with improvement of these systems and the equipment
  • Participate in team roles and discussions; and function as a working member of a high-performance work team
  • Understanding and adhering to all safety rules and regulations
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential skills and experience:

  • Ability to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written)
  • High School diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Basic use of a computer
  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including a dust mask
  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)
  • Must be able to operate machinery and/or industrial equipment
  • Ability to work 12-hour shift rotation, schedule will include weekends, holidays, and overtime

Good to have:

  • Experience with mobile equipment, including Track-mobile, Forklift, Bobcat
  • Experience with OSHA, food safety rules, and regulations
  • Knowledge of mill equipment and operations
  • Experience repairing industrial equipment
  • Experience teaching or leading others
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Assesses own strengths and weaknesses, pursues training and development opportunities, strives to continuously build knowledge and skills, and shares expertise with others

Physical requirements and working conditions (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, multiple times per day
  • Climb ladder, step and extension
  • Able to lift to 50 pounds and exert 20 pounds of force
  • Frequently stand, walk, rotate, bend/stoop, twist, crouch, kneel, balance and reach at shoulder level and below shoulder level
