Part Time ~ Quality Lab Technician

Your role:

As a Quality Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for accurate performance and communication of all laboratory tests to determine wheat/flour quality.  You will also maintain food safety understanding by participating in all site wide food safety training and be responsible to elevate food safety concerns to the appropriate level; authorized to stop production or shipments due to food safety risks.

This is a part-time role where you will be working 25 hours a week.

Your responsibilities:

  • Understand written customer specifications and run specialized tests on flour to meet customer requirements.  Sampling and collection of product for testing, including the properly labeling, storage, and disposal of retention samples.
  • Food Safety projects to ensure compliance with company and audit policies/procedures.
  • Enter data into plant control systems for paperwork generation (COA, BOL, etc.) and record keeping.
  • Calibrate lab instrumentation.
  • Responsible for Food Safety inspections and audits.  Member of Food Safety Committee.
  • Cleaning lab work area and instruments.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
  • Proficient use of computer programs including MS Word, Excel, and Access.

Good to have skills and experience:

  • Experience in a lab and/or degree in science discipline.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting.

Physical requirements and working conditions (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to work in heights.
  • Must be able to work in hot, cold environments, and dusty environments.
  • Able to work in a dusty environment and wear respiratory protection.

Other considerations:

  • Must be willing to accept accountability and work well in a team.
  • Willing and able to work weekends and Holidays.
  • Willing to get cross-trained in at least one other position for development within the facility and to provide any relief duties as needed.
