Senior Director, Total Rewards & HCMS 

 

Role: 

The Senior Director of Total Rewards is responsible for the strategic direction and execution of the organization’s Total Rewards programs and Human Resources business services including Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, and Human Capital Management systemsThis hands-on role will influence the organization’s ability to attract, engage, and retain top talent through competitive Total Rewards offerings ensuring alignment with the organization’s business goals and long-term People strategies.  The Sr. Director will lead a high-performing team of internal, customer-focused professionals who will effectively collaborate to deliver quality consultative programs and Human Resources services.  This role reports to the Chief People Officer.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Create the strategic long-term framework for Total Rewards in close collaboration with the executive team, senior leadership, and human resources leadership. 

  • Direct the design, delivery, communication, training, and administration of the Total Rewards programs and Human Resources system services 

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Executive Team and senior leaders, ensuring total rewards programs align with business objectives, and philosophy and support a high-performance culture. This includes leading initiatives that position Ardent Mills as an employer of choice in competitive talent markets.  

  • Lead the development and long-range planning and implementation of programs and systems to ensure we meet the goals of our People promise and create business efficiencies to support but business activities.  

  • Prepare and deliver Total Rewards presentations for the company’s Board of Directors or subcommittees as they relate to Total Rewards initiatives and proposals.   

  • Direct the design, delivery, communication, and administration of the executive compensation programs, ensuring a competitive framework and alignment with organizational goals.  

  • Direct the design, delivery, communication, and administration of cash incentive programsProviding insight and recommendations for change optimization as needed. 

  • Utilizing a combination of personal experience, external Benefits professionals, and internal feedback, enhance and ensure benefits offerings and policies are market competitive, legally compliant, and aligned with our employee experience strategy.  

  • Lead a team that manages and maintains benefit programs including retirement plans, leave policies, wellness programs, and insurance programsCreate performance metrics that show ROI of programs and increase team member benefits engagement. 

  • Oversee the annual year-end compensation process, ensuring strategic alignment with business objectives. Provide leadership and guidance to the compensation team, ensuring effective execution, while advising senior leaders and HR leadership on compensation-related decisions.  

  • Oversee benchmarking and data analysis efforts to ensure total rewards programs remain market and industry-competitive, financially sustainable, internally equitable, and of value to our team members. Staying abreast of industry trends and best practices; adjusting strategies as necessary to meet business vision and goals. 

  • Provide strategic oversight of HR technology initiatives and ensuring accuracy, reliability, and security of people data as well as continuous process optimization. Develop a comprehensive HR data strategy that enables business leaders to make informed, data-driven decisions.     

  • Provide strategic guidance of the performance management framework, ensuring alignment with the organization's pay-for-performance philosophy.  

  • Direct communication efforts to educate leadership, at all levels, of our compensation principles, practices and partner to solidify fair and equitable pay practicesEnsure clear and consistent messaging to team members around pay practices and how pay-for-performance compensation is delivered at Ardent Mills 

  • Provide oversight and direction on the administration of Payroll services for the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico ensuring consistent compliance and accuracy.  

  • Contribute to the Total Rewards aspects of M&A from initial due diligence through integration/divestment.  

Above all you will be expected to carry out all your activities with reliability, integrity, compliance, and in a safe, environmentally responsible, and efficient manner.  

 

Essential qualifications and experience: 

The Sr. Director, Total Rewards must have the proven ability to successfully collaborate with and lead teams to drive initiatives to completion utilizing a blend of strategic vision, technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills.  

  • Bachelor’s degree  

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in leading total rewards, compensation, benefits, and HR technology, in North America, ideally within a growing, fast-paced organization with corporate and manufacturing teams.  

  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and strategic Total Regards design skills 

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal).  

  • Deep expertise in growing, coaching, and supervising teams in the Total Rewards space. 

  • Knowledge of governmental regulations for benefit programs, compensation programs, and payroll. 

 

Good to have: 

  • Specific experience utilizing Workday core and add-on modules. 

  • Familiarity with Canada and Puerto Rico benefits and compensation  

  • Union environments 

  • CEBS, CCP, CBP, or SPHR certification or advanced degree 

 

Physical requirements and working conditions (with or without reasonable accommodation): 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer in a typical office environment. 

  • Minimal exposure to hazardous conditions, as this is an office-based role. 

Other considerations: 

  • Ability to travel to locations and corporate offices as needed. 

  • Must perform other duties as assigned.   

Ardent Mills is headquartered in Denver, CO. This role will have a preference to be based in Denver and operate under a hybrid structure of part-time in-office and part-time remote, but consideration will be made for the right remote candidate.

COMPETITIVE COMPENSATION:

We provide market-driven base pay, based on skills, abilities, and level of experiences. Our salary ranges are broad, and individual salary will be market competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of skills and level of experience. The starting range for this position is $181,700.00 - $242,315.70, with additional earning potential possible commensurate with experience. Additionally, we believe that our team members are the reason for our success and all team members are incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and individual results achieved. While the specific bonus plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions, the targeted bonus plan and targeted percentage amount for this role is Bonus - MIP, 30% Annual.
